Daniel Massé
Nature and its life's intricacies provide a rich foundation for inspiration. The interplay of light, and tactile memories, offers a good backdrop to create both abstract and figurative works.
My contemplation for nature and life's complexities is manifested through various processes. I usually experiment with contrasting elements to represent life's subtle riddles, and with textures to explore the interplay of light. The key lies in translating introspective moments into visual language, allowing viewers to engage with the depth of my personal experiences.
Daniel Massé’s remarkable journey in architectural glass art, spanning over two decades, showcases a commitment to textural design.
His fusion of art, science, and architecture, couple with innovative casting techniques, has garnered acclaim and prestigious awards like the JBG Arregato glass texture in 1999 and the Woodgrain design glass texture in 2013. Collaborating with Joel Berman, Massé’s influence is evident in JBGS’s growth, marked by distinctive textures like corrugated glass. His impact on the field is truly noteworthy.
Curator Note:
Daniel Masse is a multimedia painter, an accomplished sculptor, an ingenious artisan and a master mold maker. Inspired by the Renaissance Master and grounded by root of his heritage, his creative energy has stood the best of me. With over three decades of experience, his sought after work continues to garner praise.
Daniel transforms traditionally weak surfaces, through his unique technique of cracking substrates, into strong and stable foundation. The finished products appear as though they have been in existence since time immemorial, emerging with the attributes that all masterpieces uphold. Their steadfast qualities give the viewer the impression that they will remain long after they have passed.
Daniel’s works acquire a timeless appearance, which is a direct result of his own techniques, allowing him to blend precision rendering with the fluidity of formal definition. Each work carries a layered meaning, achieved by bringing together contrasting concepts-old and new, provocative and repressive, iconic and atypical.
Daniel invites the viewer to discover these dimensions and explore the hidden riches that are waing to be exposed.
